Our school of Nursing is very old school in South India. We are celebrated golden jubilee in First Millennium. Our school got state level award for seven times. So our Tamil Nadu Govt. has given an opportunity to upgrade our school as a College of Nursing in 1993. Our students are working in and around the world as a Nurse Researcher, Nurse manager , Nurse educator etc. Usually admission of the student will be demand in each year & admission will over with in a week. Because of the popularity & dedicated services of the missionary in the hospital as well as in school of Nursing.
HISTROY OF HOSPITAL AND THE SCHOOL
The Christian Mission Hospital is one of the earliest health agencies of Missionary Medical work in southern India. The Hospital evolved from a small dispensary established by the Missionary Doctor C.S. Shelton in 1849 which, in the next two years, became a hospital. Till 1953 this hospital functioned as two separate units namely the hospital for women and children and the Albert Victor hospital for men, later, as the Willis F, Pierce memorial hospital for men. These two hospitals were amalgamated in 1953 with a new name of Christian Mission Hospital.
Many Doctors of Western and India Origin Contributed Untiringly to the steady growth of this hospital in the last one and a half century, Memorable among them are doctors Paulin Root, Harriet, E. Parker, E.W, Wilder, Chellappa, J.J Barnes, Betty chinniah, indra, Raja, Rajeev Chelladurai.
The Christian Mission Hospital is 150 years old 350 bedded General Hospital with, most modern equipments and men and women of experts in medical background to provide to all kinds of specialized treatment. It is, in this hospital that the nursing students learn and practice, Nursing care.
The school of Nursing was started in 1913 with lower grade Nursing and Midwifery Courses in Tamil in the Hospital for women and children. In 1934 Higher grade Nursing for men started. Higher grade General Nursing and Midwifery Course was began in 1951. Many men and women of nursing background have toiled to nurture this institution to its present status and memorable among them are sisters, Fint, Betty Tayior, Wilson, Raynert, Atlwood, Margery Thomas, E.B, Lang, D.S. Hoath, S. Perera etc.The School was upgraded as a College in 1993.Both College & School of Nursing was functioning as one unit from 1993 – 2002. The School was bifurcated from College of Nursing in Nov, 2002 physically and from July 03 financially also with the leadership of our Rt. Rev. Bishop.
