Admission
The candidates seeking admission to the Nursing courses shall obtain the prescribed application form from Dr. M.G.R. Educational & Research Institute – University (decl. u/s.3 of UGC Act 1956), Chennai – 95 and shall submit the duly filled form to the (Admission Office) along with the certificate of medical fitness from an authorized Medical Officer stating that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the selected course.
SELECTION
The selection of the candidates will be done based on written Entrance Examination followed by a personal interview. The Entrance Examination comprises of multiple-choice questions from physics, biology, chemistry, general knowledge & comprehensive tests in English. The candidates should have a minimum of 50% of marks in the science subjects at Higher Secondary Examination.
All the candidates selected to join the course shall submit all the original Transfer certificate / Migration certificate at the time of admission. The certificate shall be returned only after the completion of the course and internship period.
ENROLLMENT & REGISTRATION
The candidates selected are expected to enroll their name in Dr. M.G.R. Educational & Research Institute - University within 7 days of admission / selection.
A candidate admitted to the course shall register by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form for registration duly filled in and forward it to the University through the Head of the Institution with in the stipulated dates.
PAYMENT OF FEES
The candidates are expected to pay the prescribed fees fixed from time to time with in the cutoff dates. The delay in fee remittance will attract fine.
CURRICULUM
The curriculum and syllabus is as prescribed by Indian Nursing Council norms for both theory and practical.
This curriculum and the syllabus for the course shall be approved by the standing Academic Board of the University based on INC norms from time to time.
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
English shall be the medium of Instruction for all the subjects of study and for examination.
WORKING HOURS
The Faculty will function full day from Monday to Saturday and the working hours are from 08.30 A.M. 04.30 P.M. on all working days. Second & Fourth Saturday of every month are observed as holiday.
ATTENDANCE
A candidate is required to put in a minimum 80% of attendance in both theory and practical subjects separately, which shall be mandatory to be allowed to write the end examination.
UNIFORM
The students are required to wear the prescribed uniform during their clinical experience. Two sets of clinical uniforms & one set of Community Health Nursing Uniform will be provided by the University upon the payment.
VACATION & LEAVE
A total of 6 weeks of vacation per year is planned and the students are permitted to avail the same as two weeks in December as winter vacation and four weeks in May as summer vacation.
Gazette holidays are as specified by the leave rules of the University. Special leave may be granted by the Principal on prior request from the parents for special occasions. Unauthorized leave will be deemed as absenteeism which will attract disciplinary action.
INTERNSHIP
1. Internship means 8 hours of integrated clinical duties in which 2 weeks of evening and night shift duties are included.
2. Internship should be carried out as 8 hours per day @ 48 hours per week.
3. Students during internship will be supervised by nursing teachers.
4. Fourth year final examination to be held only after complaint internship.
DISCONTINUATION
Candidates getting married during the course of study shall not be permitted to continue the course. Candidates who want to discontinue the course of study will have to abide by the rules of the University enforced from time to time.
COMMENCEMENT OF THE EXAMINATION
The examination will commence tentatively from Oct. 1st. If the date of commencement falls on Saturdays, Sundays or declared public holidays the examination shall begin on the next working day.
CONDONATION OF LACK OF ATTENDANCE
Condonation of shortage of attendance upon a maximum of 10% in the prescribed eligible attendance for admission to an examination nests with the discretionary powers of the Vice Chancellor. A candidate lacking in attendance should submit an application in the prescribed form and remit the stipulated fee, 15 days prior to the commencement of the theory examination. The head of the Department and the Head of the Institution should satisfy themselves on the genuineness of the candidates request while forwarding the application of the candidates to the Controller of Examinations, who would obtain the Vice Chancellors approval for admission to the examination. No application would be reviewed if it is not forwarded through proper channel.
INTERNAL ASSESSMENT
- A minimum of three written examinations per year and two sessional and one model exam shall be conducted in each subject and the average mark of the three performances shall be taken into consideration for the award of Internal Assessment.
- A minimum of one practical examination shall be conducted in each subject (whatever practical have been included in the curriculum)
- Clinical Evaluation marks will be considered for internal assessment.
- If a failed candidate does not appear for any “Improvement” mark examination or Re-examination in the failed subject, the previous internal marks shall be carried over for his subsequent appearances.
- The internal assessment marks should be submitted to the university endorsed by the Head of the Institution 15 days prior to the commencement of the theory examination.
SUBMISSION OF RECORD NOTE BOOKS
At the time of practical examination, each candidate shall submit to the examiners the record note books midwifery duty, certified by the Head of the Institution, as a bonafide record of work done by the candidate.
CARRY OVER OF FAILED SUBJECTS
- A candidate has to pass in theory and practical exam separately in each of the paper.
- If a candidate fails either in theory or in practical paper he/she has to re-appear for both the papers (Theory and Practical).
Maximum number of three attempts will be permitted for each paper including first attempt.
- A candidate failing in more than two subjects will not be promoted to the next year.
- Candidate shall not be admitted to the subsequent higher examination unless the candidate has passed the previous examination.
MINIMUM MARKS REQUIRED FOR A PASS
A Candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination if he/she obtains the following marks.
- 45% of marks in the subject of English
- 50% of marks in the subject where internal evaluation alone is conducted
- 50% marks in University theory examination and internal evaluation taken together in the subject.
CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
A Successful Candidate
- Who secures not less than 75% is subjected to get distinction in that particular subject provided a pass in the first attempt.
- Who secures not less than 60% at first appearance shall be declared as first class.
- All the other successful candidates shall be declared to have passed the examination in the second class.
RE-EVALUATION OF ANSWER PAPERS
The regulations are prescribed by the University for other under graduate courses.
RE-ADMISSION AFTER BREAK OF STUDY
- Re-admission of a candidate is subject to the approval of the Vice-Chancellor.
- The Candidates having a break of study of 5 years and above from the date of admission and more than two spells of break will not be considered for re-admission.
