Aiming to bring about change and progress through education the Tmt. Kannammal Educational Trust was instituted in 1985.  Under this Trust, The Faculty of Nursing was established in 2005 with an intake of 50 students.  It is a Faculty under the Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute - University (decl. u/s.3 of UGC Act 1956) as per the orders of the University Grants Commission dated 13th September, 2006.

The course was approved by Tamilnadu Nurses & Midwives Council vide its letter No.1612/NC/2008 dated 02.12.2008.

The latest renewal by Indian Nursing Council vide its letter No.18-29/1962-INC, dated 14.05.2009
