History & Background
  Genesis: Our former Premier (Chief Minister) of Chennai Province, Honourable O.P.Ramasamy resigned his post and settled down in Vadalur.The seed of O.P.R. Institutions germinated on 18.06.1951, when O.P.R. founded “Suddha Sanmarga Nilayam”.  This organization-paved way for founding, ‘Appar Orphan Students Home’, “Appar Old Age Home”, ‘Ramalingar Deciples Home’, and “ Vallalar Gurukulam High School” was founded on 28.09.1953, on behalf of Suddha Sanmarga Nilayam.  The school started as a primary school then  to status of a High School in 1958 .Due to the great efforts of the Secretary the School raised in its position as a Higher Secondary School in the year 1994. Under the Presidentship of Pollachi Dr.N.Mahalingam and the Secretaryship of Dr.R.Selvaraj the foundation of Vallalar Gurukulam Higher Secondary School has paved way for the establishment of  O.P.R. Memorial School of Nursing, O.P.R. Memorial Teacher Training Institute, O.P.R. Memorial College of Education , Dr.N.Mahalingam Teacher Training Institute & Vallalar Arts and Science College.

Note on O.P.R.Memorial School of Nursing

                Since the service of nurses in the world of medicine is absolutely necessary, the Secretary Dr.R.Selvaraj intended to start a Nursing  Institute on behalf of ‘Suddha Sanmarga Nilayam’.  As an outcome in the Golden Jubilee year of  ‘Suddha Sanmarga Nilayam’ O.P.R.Memorial School of Nursing was founded on 06.07.2001.  Arutselver’s patronage and Presidentship is the main cause for the initiation of this institute.  In this institute they have produced 100% results and the budding Nurses are given excellent training with able staff members.  The students who complete their course in this institute are blessed with job in reputed hospitals.  This institute proves its service mindedness by helping the neighboring institutions.  If somebody falls sick, a Nursing Student rushes to the spot with a B.P.Apparatus and gives first aid.  Their service starts even when they are students. It is a boon to have this Nursing Institute beside the other educational institutions.  This co-ordination and co-operation lays foundation for National Integration and Spirit of friendliness.  Long live Arutselvar’s name and fame who has founded this institute and three cheers to Dr.R.Selvaraj, the Secretary who maintains the institute in a capable manner. 

This institute is managed very well with able Principal and Staff members .Students get their practical training in NLC Hospital which is with all specialties including Gynecology, Nephrology, Neurology, Cardiology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental, Medical, Surgical, Peadiatric, Ortho, Dermatology, Radiology & many other aspects of Clinical Practical Training. Doctors and Nurses take keen interest to teach the student nurses during their training. Student get Special Training in giving care to patients in Dialysis. Community Health Nursing Training is obtained from ‘Primary Health Centre’, Vadalur, Subcentre at Parvathipuram & Field Visit to respective areas in & around Vadalur. Mental Health traning is given in IMH,Chennai and comfort  accommodation is arranged.
Board of Examination is being conducted in center at Cuddalore GH & Practical at NLC General Hospital, Neyveli. This institute produced very good results in the common examinations conducted by the government. It is a pride to declare that Pachaivazhi got the I rank at state level that belongs to this institute. Every year majority of our student score to be in First class and distiction.
The students underwent Tsunami survey & relief programme in Akkragori, Sonankuppam & Singarathoppu and do the students participate in Eye camp, Tuberculosis awareness programme, Multi speciality camp, Breastfeeding awareness programme, Leprosy awareness programme, Nutritional awareness programme for Antenatal mothers & Pulse Polio Immunization programme.
Keeping in cope with the increasing demand we planned to increase up our annual intake from 20 to 40.
And do our step to initiate degree programme in basic nursing from academic year is in progress.
