College activities
1)Student strength:
The total strength of the B.Sc Nursing in June 2007 was 195, out of which 188 are female students and 7 are male students for the academic year 2007 -2008. 42 female students were admitted to the 1st year in September 2007.The final year students 48 (2003 -07) batch have completed the course and left on 30-11-2007. Thus the total strength as of date is 189.
The total strength of M.Sc Nursing is 13.
2)Faculty strength:
The College has a total of 30 staff members carrying out the entire academic responsibilities . The faculty consists of one Doctorate (P.Hd) Member, 15 Post graduates, of which 10 are in Nursing and 5 Allied Science and 15 B.Sc graduates . The college also has several part time Lectures and visiting professors who give lectures on various subjects .The untiring efforts of the faculty members in the academic pursuit of the student are highly commendable. Besides their regular lecture schedule , all faculty members except the principal, accompany students to the various hospitals for one to one supervised learning through live demonstration and other clinical teaching methods .Students thus gain hands on experience to develop practical skills. The presence of clinically skilled nursing staff and post graduate staff in allied sciences is an added asset for the students learning experience.
3) Inspection:
The Tamil nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University Inspection for B.Sc (N) and M.Sc (N) was conducted on 05-04-2007 and 30-05-2007 respectively. The affliation order was received from the University on 30 -08 -2007 with an intake of 50 students for the academic year 2007-2008.Grant of continuance of provisional affliation for MSc (N) is awaited . The University order for one more speciality in M.Sc Nursing programme i.e.Community Health Nursing (2 seats) was received on 15-06-2007.
4) Candle lighting Ceremony:
The Candle lighting ceremonies for B.Sc (N)and Dip(N) for the year 2006-2007 was held on 12-01-2007. Dr.Mrs.A.V.Raman ,Dean ,Omayal Achi College of Nursing , Chennai was the chief guest.
The Graduation Ceremony for the batches (2002-2006) and (2003-2007) was held on 28-09-2007.Prof.Mrs.Abanthi Gopan ,Nursing Director Sahyadri College of Nursing ,Mangalore was the chief guest of the function.We are happy to inform that we have released our college Magazine “preitha 07” during the function.
Academic activities:
1)Examination pattern;
The following rules were implemented by the board of studies for all the Colleges affliated to the Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R.Medical University ,Chennai.
The I and II year would follow the new revised syllabus of the INC ,where in all subjects are external.
The III and IV year would follow the old syllabus.
2)Clinical experience :
As part of the B.Sc Nursing curriculum , students are posted to various hospitals for their basic and specialized clinical experience. The hospitals are RVS Hospital, RA Hospital, Richmond Hospital ,Lotus Eye Hospital ,Vikram ENT Hospital ,Vedanayakam Hospital, Masonic Children Hospital, Institute of mental health Chennai. & TSK Maternity center, Tirupur. The VII Semester students (females )were sent to Kasturbai Maternity Center, Karur Gandhigram Institute,Dindigul for their Midwifery postings. The Male students were sent to TSK Maternity Center at Tirupur.
3)Community Health Programme:
The students are posted to various places like Kodangipalayam,Kadambadi and Sengathurai for their clinical postings , where a lot of Mass Education and Health awareness camps are held by the students besides the regular home care visits. The VI Semester students were posted for community Health Nursing experience to Gandhigram Institute of Rural Health & Family Welfare for a week.
4)World Health Day celebrations:
As part of the World Health Days the students celebrated the following :
1.Breast feeding week celebrations was organized and conducted from 1-08-2007 to 30-08-2007 by B.Sc Nursing and Diploma Nursing students. Faculty members accompanied the students for all the programmes .The first programme a rally which was conducted on 01- 08 -2007 by Diploma Nursing students.
Health Exhibition was also conducted at RVS Hospital on 18-08-2007. Various programmes such as :
a)Awareness programme at Kodangipalayam on 01-08-2007.
The activities were role play , Health talk, Skit villupattu, folk songs and puppet shows.
b)A Questionaire survey to evaluate the knowledge on breast feeding mothers in Kodangipalayam.
C)Slogan writing competition on 07-08-2007.
d)Awareness programme at Kalangal on 18-08-2007.
e)Scrolling of slogans on breast feeding in local cable TV from 01-08-2007 to 30-08-2007.
SNA ACTIVITY:
Extra and Co curricular Activities:
The students of our college regularly participated in co-curricular and extra curricular activities at the inter collegiate level in and around Coimbatore and have won laurels for the college.
a)FLORUM;
On June 13,14,15-2007 ,students participated in the intercollegiate cultural and sports meet “FLORUM” held at Annai J.K.Sampoorani Ammal College of Nursing, Komarapalayam.
b)SNAZZY-2007
On Semptember 27,28,29-2007, Students participated in the Intercollegiate Cultural and Sports meet “SNAZZY” which was held at CSI-Jeyaraj Annapakyam College Of Nursing, Madurai,as part of the MGR Medical University sports meet in Colleges is necessary. Students participated in all the events and also gave various Guest performance. All the students got the participation certificate.
c)ZENITH-2007:
The VII Semester students participated in the ZENITH-2007 Quiz Competition organized by the PSG College Of Nursing on 15-11-07.
d)FACETIOUS-2007:
Our Students will be participating in the Annual Inter Collegiate Meet “FACETIOUS’ organized by the Ramakrishna Institute Of Paramedical Science Coimbatoreon 10-12-07.
FACULTY DEVELOPMENT :
A.CONTINUING EDUCATION:
The management deputes Candidates for the Msc.,Nursing Programme by means of a Scholarship loan through the Saroj Idnani Endowment Fund from the College.
B.INSERVICE EDUCATION:
Staff members have undergone training in the use of computers.They were trained in Word, Power point and Internet browsing Programmes.The Course comprised of theory and practical sessions at RVS College of Arts and Science for a week during the month of August 2007.
The staff members participated in an application class on Fire Extinguisher conducted by the Chief Security Officer on 16th February 2007 at RVS College of Nursing.
The Principal took a lecture for the faculty on “Self Awareness” at RVS College of Nursing on 16th February 2007.
The faculty and clerical staff attende an awareness meeting for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) conducted by Zapis Technologies ,Kerala on 30-01-2007 at RVS College of Arts & Science.


Faculty had attended a workshop on “Research Methodology For Nurses” at CMCH College of Nursing, Vellore from 29-01-2007 to 31-01-2007.
Staffs from our college have also participated in the National Conference on Medical Emergencies “EM-CARE” conducted on 5-02-2007 to 6-02-2007 held at Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing, Mangalore.The Seminar highlighted various areas of emergency crisis interventions where a nurse is involved.
The College organized a 2 days workshop on Manual Handling of Patients on 23-24 February 2007.Our Alumini Mr.Mayilvaganan who is presently working in Ireland took initiative in arranging two resource persons Ms.Margret Carragher Dohney and Mr.John Dohney from Dublin, Ireland to incorporate our College for this Workshop in their academic itenary.
A Workshop on “ Diabetis”was conducted by RVS Hospital on 23rd and 24th of March 2007; Staffs and Students participated in the seminar.
A Two days workshop on Strengthening Public Health System was organized by NIHFW, New Delhi in collaboration with WHO on 28th and 29th Nov2007 at New Delhi. An Urgency was felt for Joint Collaboration efforts through networking and partnership process to pool all the available human resources from Department of Community Medicine, Nursing Colleges and Health Training Institutions. In this regard Public Health Education and research consortium networking and partnership was formed under the aegis of the NIHFW. This is the apex technical Institution under the ministry of Health and family welfare, Government of India with the mandate to promote Health and family welfare programs in the country through education, training, research evaluation and other specialized services. NIHFW had sent the proposal to Government and Private Medical and Nursing Colleges to become a partner in the PHE & RC. Among the Registered Nursing Institutions from Coimbatore, RVS College Of Nursing was chosen and invited to attened the workshop mentioned above. Mr.N.Meenakshisundaram,HOD,Medical Surgical Nursing represented on behalf of RVS College Of Nursing at the Workshop.
Mrs. G.Suba ,Lecturer in Nutririon from RVS College of Nursing, attended a National Conference on “Myths and Facts on Obesity” Conducted by the PSG College of Arts and Science on 19th and 20th December 2007. She also presented posters on “Frank facts of obesity” and “Physiological changes in obesity”.
D)FACULTY PICNIC:
A one day faculty picnic was organized on 26-07-2007 to Tirumoorthi Hills ,Udamalpet and Amaravathi Dam .About 30 staff members joined the trip and enjoyed the day.
