Rotary is an organisation dedicated to different kinds of service, one of them being Vocational Service.  Rtn. Dr. B. M. Veerabadran, a senior member of the Rotary Club of Madras Southwest and Founder and Managing Director of The Best Hospital in Kodambakkam, Chennai 600 024, a Multi Speciality institution. Came up with a proposal for a Nursing School to be started by the Rotary Club as a Vocational Service Project.  This School was designed as a non-profiteering and non-commercial institution with optimum financial subsidy by the Club through its Madras Southwest Rotary Projects Charitable Trust minimising the liability of the candidates purely with a service outlook for providing opportunities to eligible and aspiring girls of economically backward families, who could ill afford doing the course because of resource constraints.
            The proposal was appreciated and adopted by the Club and the Nursing School was started way back in 1989.  The School got its recognition by the Government of Tamilnadu from the academic year 1994 and it is an institution duly approved by the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council and the Indian Nursing Council.  The students appear for the Board Examinations of the Government of Tamilnadu and get qualified with the Diploma that is recognised world over.
The annual intake is 20 students.  So far 12 batches (240 Nurses) have completed their training and got placed professionally.  All through the School has been earning a cent-per-cent pass and State ranks.  Over 60 of the Nurses of our School are well placed at Singapore, Middle East, USA, UK etc. and the others are settled in India in their avocation.
Three major multi-speciality medical institutions of the city provide our Nurses the Clinical area for training, viz.

3. Public Health Centre, West Mambalam, Chennai 600 033

Management

1. Academic affairs:

The apex governing body of the Rotary School of Nursing is the 11 Members Board of Madras Southwest Rotary Projects Charitable Trust.

Rtn. Dr. Hisamuddin Papa, Chairman is at the helm of affairs of the academic and administrative affairs of the School.   He is the Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of HUMA Specialists Hospital and Research Centre Pvt. Ltd.

The Financial Control of the School is vested with Rtn. S. Vimal Kumar, Treasurer of the Trust.  He is the Managing Director, Shasun Chemicals and Drugs Ltd.. 
 

The Principal is vested with the authority for day-to-day functioning of the School.  She handles administration, teaching and training, conduct of examinations, students' discipline etc. 
The Principal is assisted by the Vice Principal, Administrative Officer and a clerk cum typist in School administration.  On the academic side she is assisted by the Vice Principal, Senior Nursing Tutor and other Nursing Tutors who handle teaching and training of the students. 

Vision and Mission:

Plans are being drawn to upgrade this institution, which has been functioning as a Nursing School for the past 14 years, into a full-fledged Rotary College of Nursing introducing B.Sc. Nursing Course.
Efforts are being made to have our own hostel, instead of our hostel being part of Sathyalok Gardens.

• The School has been recognized after due inspections by the Government of Tamilnadu in G.O.Ms.No.102, Health and Family Welfare dated 15.02.1995.
• The School has been accorded recognition by the Tamilnadu Nursing Council retrospectively from 1994-95 in Ref.No.142/HC/160/2001 dated 19.11.2001
• The School has been recognised and approved by the Indian Nursing Council in Certificate No.18-1243/2001-INC dated 03.04.2003.
• This School is affiliated to Government Institute of Mental Health, Chennai 600 010 for training in Psychiatric Nursing.
• The School is affiliated to Corporation Health Posts under Vadapalani Zone for Urban Community Nursing.
• The School is affiliated to Health Posts at Naravarikuppam and Minjur for Rural Community Nursing and to the Corporation Health Posts of Shenoynagar and Vadapalani for Domiciliary Midwifery training.
• These are apart from the clinical areas of training in Vijaya Hospital, The Best Hospital and Public Health Centre mentioned earlier.
