Admission
DURATION OF THE COURSE :
GNM course is conducted for 3 years till now up June 2007. From July 2007 onwards GNM course is conducted for 3 years and 6 months.
GNM SYLLABUS :
- Intercare in duration from 3 yrs, to 3 ½ years.
- Introducing internship for 6 months.
- Introduction of new subjects:
- English
- Computer education
- Education methods and media for teaching in practical of nursing
- Introduction to research
- Health economics.
ELIGIBILITY :
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION :
Higher Secondary or its equivalent of 50% marks in English, Mathematics, Biological Science or vocational nursing. Must be able to speak in English.
Physical Standards :
Age : 18 to 25 years
Minimum Height : 148 cm.
Minimum Weight : 38 Kg.
Status : Unmarried
Guide Lines to the Candidates :
- All entries in the application must be legibly written by the candidate in her own hand writing in Capital Letters.
- A crossed demand draft in favour of St.Theresa of Child Jesus, School of Nursing, St.Thomas Mount, Chennai – 16, for Rs.200/- towards registration fee to be attached to the application form. This fee will not be refunded under any circumstances whether the candidate is selected or not.
- No documents produced along with the application will be returned. Hence candidates are advised to send only Photostat copies or attested copies of the documents along with the application form. The original certificates must be produced at the time of interview and admission.
- The application form duly filled in with all enclosures should reach the Secretary, selection committee, St.Theresa of Child Jesus School of Nursing, St.Thomas Mount, before the prescribed date.
- “Application for admission to Diploma in Nursing” should be written at the top of the application envelope.
- The following photostat or attested copies of documents should be attached to the application form:
- Mark sheets of S.S.L.C. and H.Sc. or its equivalent examination.
- Two recent passport size photographs of the application duly attested.
- Conduct Certificate issued by the head of the institution where the student last studied.
- Transfer Certificate.
- Community Certificate.
- A certificate of physical fitness issued by a registered Medical Practitioner.
- A covering letter with the application in candidate’s own handwriting.
- Two reference letters from non-related members.
METHOD OF SELECTION AND ADMISSION:
All the candidates who have applied for admission and are found eligible will be sent for an interview card and are required to take an entrance examination at their own cost.
The same day interview, medical checkup, skill and practical assessment will be done.
Only 20 candidates are selected annually, selected candidates will be intimated through post and are required to join the course on or before the prescribed date which will be intimated along with selection card.
If the selected candidates fail to pay the prescribed fees and join the course on or before the joining date her selection will be cancelled automatically.
Selected candidates will have to undergo a probationary period of three months, the students who are found fit and successful in both theory and practical will be admitted as regular students of Nursing. Candidates who are found unfit will be asked to discontinue the course.

In additional to the above, students will be required to meet the following incidental and Sunday expenses via Dobby charges, all Stationary Requirements, including Xerox, lectures, professional Association fees and recreational changes.This will be changeable. For internship ship period – No fees collected.
STIPEND:
The Stipendiary students will be given stipend as follows:
CATEGORY I:
Stipendiary students will work for 2 years on payment decided by the management.
CATEGORY II:
Non-stipendiary students will work for one year on a regular salary.
REFUND FEE:
If the candidate leaves the institution within five days of admission all the fees other than the mess fess for those days will be refunded.
In case the discontinuation is after five days and before 20 days 75% of the money will be refunded. Those candidates who leave after 35 days for any reason have to pay the fees for the rest of entire course to get their original certificates.
MEDICAL AID:
The students health needs will be met periodically with in the limits of hospital availability, any drugs bought from outside or special procedures done in any other hospital / diagnostic centers should be met by the students only.
Students will have regular health follows up with routine physical examination conducted annually. Vaccination will be repeated as per the requirement. Health record is maintained for each student is expected to keep their health sound and fit to serve & care.
LEAVE:
30 days Annual Leave for each academic year.
10 days sick Leave
7 days study Leave
Sick leave cannot be accumulated from year to year.
Students will have all the institution holidays.
BOND:
At the time of admission all the students are required to sign an agreement with the institution to work in the hospital or in any other congregational institution run by the congregation for a period according to the category.
Category I (or) II in any other sister institution for a period of two years after the completion of the internship on a regular salary.
In case a stipendiary student is not willing to work in this hospital or any other sister institution after the completion of the internship she will have to pay in full the amount the received in the form of stipend during her training period. Until the payment is settled with the institution the school authorities has the right to with hold the transfer certificate, mark sheet and all academic certificates.
The administrator is empowered to with hold the Transfer Certificate and other certificates issued by the School of Nursing until the above obligations are fulfilled.
UNIFORM:
Uniform is available at the school. Students are advised not to make their own at any times during their period.
DISMISSAL:
- Students will be subjected to dismissal at any time for misconduct or repeated negligence of duty.
- Students are forbidden to receive gifts in any form patients or their relatives.
- Student’s certificates will be with held by the school if the payment dues are not settled.
- Student will be dismissed if they get married before completing the diploma course.
VISITORS:
On 2nd Sundays students are allowed to go out along with their parents from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.On 4th Sunday parents are allowed to see the students at hostel from 3:00 pm to 5:00pm.
