The Franciscan Sisters of St.Joseph is one of the leading organizations in the field of social service, through schools, hospitals, Evangelization and orphanages, reaching all needy areas of the society. It was started in the year 1887 by Rev. Bishop Gerardus Alen at Vepery, for the sisters with the motto of “towards perfect love in simplicity”. Based on this St.Thomas Hospital was started.

St. Thomas Hospital is situated near St. Thomas Mount close to the Railway Station and Bus Stand away from the Airport. Located in a ground area of 1,32,000 sq.ft. amidst silvan surroundings far away from the hustle and bustle of city, the existing building occupies only 20,000 sq.ft. leaving plenty of room for expansion. This hospital caters to the medical needs 3,00,000 people, partly urban with a sizeable proportion of industrial workers. Big Industries like India cements, Bush Broke Allen (Indian) Ltd, Hindustan Tele-printers, Indian Drugs Pharm Ltd, L & T E.C.C., Audco, Bharath Electronics Ltd, etc., are within the spare of its service. |
