College
Billroth College of Nursing is located in serene location on Poonamallee Highway Road at Maduravoyal, Chennai. The college building measures more than 20000sq ft (18 grounds) with all infrastructure facilities including auditorium, class rooms, Nursing and Science labs, library & games field. The college has existing parant hospital with the capacity of 400 beds measuring 1,20,000 sq ft at Shenoy Nagar with various specialties. It also has a branch at R.A. Puram with the bed capacity of 103.
The college is located at a distance of 6 km from the parant hospital. However, the trust also under its possession of a sprawling campus measuring 55 acres at Poonamallee where the proposed College of Nursing is planned to be constructed with world class infrastructure. The college has collaborative arrangements with various specialty hospitals & Community centers to cater the needs of the students.
Admissions: The number of applicants both male and female aspiring for nursing is increased considerably due to the demand for nurses in India and abroad. Our sanctioned intake at present is 50. Seventeen students under the management quota and 33 under the government selection. The need for increasing admission from 50 to 100 is in progress.
Infrastructure: College has the state of the art facilities with adequate class rooms, fully equipped laboratories to learn and practice. Faculties enable the students to attain the desired learning out-come before their postings in the clinical area considering the complexities of the procedures.

Faculty Positions
Both full time and part time faculties are selected with care and inducted as per the norms prescribed by Indian Nursing Council. Teams of qualified and well experienced faculty from Premier institutions assess, organize, plan, implement and evaluate the curriculum effectively and efficiently with the ambition of developing best care providers. The goal of the college is achieved by their dedicated service.
Curriculum
The revised curriculum recommended by Indian Nursing Council has been implemented from the academic year 2006-2007.
Students’ activities
Students are expected to participate in all the activities organized by the college such as NSS, Youth Red Cross programme.
Student Nurses Association (SNA)
Students are expected to be a member of SNA (TNAI – after the course) and participate in all the activities of SNA (cultural, vocational and educational). Fees to be paid as per TNAI rules.The talented students will be encouraged to participate in national and international levels with SNA fund.
Scholarship
The institution will extend all its co-operations and co-ordinations for availing loan / scholarship Government and other institutions.
Conduct and Discipline
- Students are responsible to the principal for their behavior in the hostel as well as college
- Students are required to maintain ethical and professional standards and behaviors
- Students should make every effort to take care of the college and hostel property
- Students are required to aside by the rules and regulations laid by the hospital, hostel and college authorities.
Voluntary withdrawal
Students who voluntary withdraw given the college shall be required to pay the full fees for the entire programme. The fees already paid will not be refunded.
Health programme
Each student will undergo an annual medical checkup and the health records will be maintained. If any illness occurs during their programme, they will be taken care in the hospital and students who are found to have major health problems, viz psychiatric illness will have to discontinue and the fees paid will not be refunded.
Health Checkup and Immunization
Health assessment is done annually. Students are vaccinated against Hepatitis – B before the start of clinical posting.
Co-curricular activities
Lamp Lighting Ceremony: This ceremony is held each year as the freshers’ take up the Florence Nightingale pledge to enter into the nursing profession.
Parents Faculty meet: Open interaction of the parents and faculty are held once a year .Parents are counseled about their ward’s total development.
Student Nurse’s association: All students become members of the unit and take part in the unit, State and National level activities. Ms. Uma Gowri B.Sc (N) is the SNA advisor.
Youth Red Cross: All students are members of the Youth Red Cross and involve in social activities. Ms.G.M.Ramya., B.Sc (N), is the Youth Red Cross Officer.
Excursion: Every year the students are taken for excursions.
Spiritual Activity: Students are permitted to follow the philosophies of their own religion without disturbing the scheduled educational activities.
Faculty Development:
Journal club conducted second week of every month. Staff development programme is conducted in every third week of every month. We have conducted A Workshop on” Safe Motherhood “on 17th April 2008’ and faculty and students from all the College of Chennai attended the workshop.

Integration of Theory and Practice: Teaching and learning activities are carefully selected by the curriculum committee considering the various skills to be developed. Clinical learning areas are carefully selected to enable the development skills that are specific to nursing discipline as well as to establish a foundation for life long learning. Students are guided to learn client centered hospital and community based caring skill to take lead role in an ever-advancing health care system.

Community
Urban Health services: Our students get to know the health care delivery system of India and primary health care services by serving at Chennai corporation urban health posts.
Rural Health Services: Billroth Health Center at Papanchatram, near Poonamalle is planning to render health care to a population of 15,000 at their door step and gives the referral services to various Govt & Private hospitals.
Hostel facilities
Separate hostels for girls and boys are provided with good food and accommodation. Wardens maintain homely care and yet maintain the discipline. Recreational facilities such as Television and facilities for indoor games are provided. Their mess includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food that students plan through the food committee. |
