ACHIEVEMENTS:

Billroth College of Nursing functions at No: 2, Mettukuppam Road, Maduravoyal, Chennai – 602 102, since Oct 2007 under the parent body of Billroth Medical & Educational Trust well known for its’ dedicated contribution to Education at Chennai which was established on 6th day of December 2000 by
Dr.V.Jeganathan S/o Late S.Venkataswamy with the aim of the trust is to enable a healthy society by providing free medical care and education within the limits. The Vision and Mission is to exuberate in high-tech health care delivery system by training health care professionals with the desired knowledge, skill and attitude. The institution also believes in translating the latest trends in Nursing education Technology and Practice to initiate competency in rendering holistic health care in all the different settings in the national and international scenario.

The Vision of Billroth Medical & Education Trust is to give standard medical and Para Medical education at attainable cost with international standards to deliver quality health care.

Accreditation
The College is subjected to periodical inspection by the different accrediting bodes in the state and national level. The latest inspections are by:

  • The Indian Nursing Council
  • The Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council
  • The TN Dr. M. G. R. Medical University
  • The D. M. E Inspection

Curriculum Competencies

  • Admissions: The number of applicants both male and female aspiring for nursing is increased considerably due to the demand for nurses in India and abroad. Our sanctioned in take at present is 50 – 17 under the management quota and 33 under the government selection.
  • Infrastructure: College has the state of the art facilities with adequate class rooms, fully equipped laboratories to learn and practice. Faculties enable the students to attain the desired learning out-come before their postings in the clinical area considering the complexities of the procedures.
  • Faculty Positions: Both full time and part time faculties are selected with care and inducted as per the norms prescribed by Indian Nursing Council. A team of qualified well experienced faculty from Premier institutions assesses, organize, plan, implement and evaluate the curriculum effectively and efficiently with the ambition of developing best care providers. The goal of the college is achieved by their dedicated service.
  • Library: A good collection of books and journals of Indian and foreign origin are available in all subjects for students reference. CDs of latest technical, data are stocked. Surfing the net with high speed connectivity ON LINE is possible. The Librarians facilitate flexible timings and enable easy access.
  • Curriculum: The revised curriculum recommended by Indian Nursing Council has been implemented.
  • Integration of Theory and Practice: Teaching and learning activities are carefully selected by the curriculum committee considering the various skills to be developed. Clinical learning areas are carefully selected to enable the development skills that are specific to nursing discipline as well as to establish a foundation for life long learning. Students are guided to learn client centered hospital and community based caring skill to take lead role in an ever-advancing health care system.

Our gratitude is expressed to the Chairman and Medical Director of Billroth Hospitals Ltd for permitting our nursing students to undergo clinical learning practice through out the year. The college has tie-up arrangements with the following Hospitals.We also undergo training in the following affiliated hospitals for the respective specialty.

    • Kanchi Kamakotti Child Trust Hospital - 300 Bedded Hospital
    • Institute of Mental Health - 1800 Bedded Hospital
    • Chennai Corporation (Urban Health Services)
    • Rural PHC – Thiruvallore.
  • Rural Health Services: Billroth Health Center at PAPANCHATRAM .Near Poonamalle planning to render health care to a population of 15,000 at their door step with a vision to build a hospital in the same venue.
  • Health Checkup and Immunization: Health assessment is done annually. Students are vaccinated Hepatitis – B before the start of clinical posting.
  • Transport: Mobility of students to various clinical areas and also for observation visits is possible by the utility of the college bus.

Evaluation system: is effectively implemented and the performance of the students in theory and practice are reported to the parents periodically. Special attention is given for academically weak students to complement and promote their competencies.
Co-Curricular Activities

  • Lamp Lighting Ceremony: The Nurses took Florence Nightingale pledge to enter into the nursing profession at the lamp lighting ceremony on 1.2.08. Prof.P.V.Ramachandran, The Chairman -,Nursing Education, Sri Ramachandra University ,SRMU was the Chief Guest .Dr.Lakshmipathi., Chief Consultant & HOD - dept on Chest Medicine delivered the message of significance of the ceremony.

  • Parents - Faulty meet: Open interaction of the parents and faculty was held on 1.2.2008.Parents were counseled about their ward’s total development & encouraged to give feed back of their wards development.
  • Student Nurses Association (SNA): All students become members in the unit and take part in the unit, state and National level activities. Ms. Uma Gowri B. Sc., (N) is the advisor.
  • Youth Red Cross: All students are members of Youth Red Cross and involve in social activities. Ms.G.M.Ramya B.Sc (N), is the unit Youth Red Cross Officer.
  • Excursion is planned for the IV B. Sc., (N) students.
  • Spiritual Activity: Students are permitted to follow the philosophies of their religion without disturbing the scheduled educational activities.




Students participating in extra-curricular activities

 FORECAST: Shifting the college to a spacious site with the hostel in the campus to establish a model setup. Starting postgraduate programme in Nursing,upgrading all the departments and improving research committee activities especially in rural health services for standardization in national and international level.
