| Batlagundu is a small town in Dindigul district, at the foot hills of Kodaikanal, the beautiful summer resort. Leonard Hospital is run by the Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod, founded by Mother Claudine Echernier in 1838 in France, with the noble ideal of uplifting the poor and uneducated young girls. This Congregation now spread far and wide in 16 countries is engaged in different types of apostolate such as education, healing, youth ministry, pastoral work, social work, etc. In 1957 the sisters started a dispensary, the felt need of the locality, for promoting spiritual, moral, mental and social advancement of the people and to bring wholeness through compassionate love and service. Today the institution has grown to a 200 bed hospital, with various departments and modern facilities, which carry the message of loving service beyond it, to the homes and communities both in rural and urban areas. The institution gives great emphasis on community health and development programmes by organizing village clinics, house visits, school health programmes, other projects for development programmes, in collaboration with Government and other non-government organizations. |
