  Infrastructure  

College

  • Admissions: The number of applicants both male and female aspiring for nursing is increased considerably due to the demand for nurses in India and abroad. Our sanctioned intake at present is 50. Twenty five students under the management quota and 25 under the government selection. The need for increasing admission from 50 to 100 is in progress.

  • Infrastructure: College has the state of the art facilities with adequate class rooms, fully equipped laboratories to learn and practice. Faculties enable the students to attain the desired learning out-come before their postings in the clinical area considering the complexities of the procedures.
  • Faculty Positions: Both full time and part time faculties are selected with care and inducted as per the norms prescribed by Indian Nursing Council. Teams of qualified and well experienced faculty from Premier institutions assess, organize, plan, implement and evaluate the curriculum effectively and efficiently with the ambition of developing best care providers. The goal of the college is achieved by their dedicated service.
  • Curriculum: The revised curriculum recommended by Indian Nursing Council has been implemented from the academic year 2006-2007.
  • Health Checkup and Immunization : Health assessment is done annually. Students are vaccinated against Hepatitis – B before the start of clinical posting.
  • Co-curricular activities:
  • Lamp Lighting Ceremony: This ceremony is held each year as the fresher’s take up the Florence Nightingale pledge to enter into the nursing profession.

  • Parents Faculty meet: Open interaction of the parents and faculty are held once a year for 4 days. Parents are counseled about their ward’s total development.

  • Annual sports meet: Sports meet is held each year and all the students participate in all events enthusiastically.

  • Student Nurse’s association: All students become members of the unit and take part in the unit, State and National level activities. Mrs. Annie Elizabeth, M.Sc (N), Community Health Nursing Department is the SNA advisor.
  • Youth Red Cross: All students are members of the Youth Red Cross and involve in social activities. Ms. Narmatha, M.Sc (N), Pediatric Nursing Department is the Youth Red Cross Officer.
  • Excursion: Every year the students are taken for excursions.

  • Spiritual Activity: Students are permitted to follow the philosophies of their own religion without disturbing the scheduled educational activities.

  • Alumni Association: The graduated students are made members of the Alumni.

Faculty Development : Continuing Nursing Education programme is in session every Friday except examination period and vacation. One hour is usefully spent on journal presentation or seminars on needed topics or discussions on unclear matters. Workshop on “Students centered Counseling and Guidance” was conducted by the Department of Mental Health Nursing for all faculties of all the institutions under Mohamed Sathak Trust. Faculty is deputed for workshops and conferences at Chennai colleges.

Hospital (Parental / Affiliated)

Integration of Theory and Practice: Teaching and learning activities are carefully selected by the curriculum committee considering the various skills to be developed. Clinical learning areas are carefully selected to enable the development skills that are specific to nursing discipline as well as to establish a foundation for life long learning. Students are guided to learn client centered hospital and community based caring skill to take lead role in an ever-advancing health care system.

Our gratitude is expressed to the Chairman and Chief Medical Officer of Chennai Port Trust Hospital for permitting only Mohamed Sathak A. J. College of Nursing to undergo clinical learning practice through out the year. The college has tie up arrangements with the following Hospitals.

Community

Urban Health services: Our students get to know the health care delivery system of India and primary health care services by serving at Chennai corporation urban health posts.

Rural Health Services: Mohamed Sathak A. J. Health Center at 1/117, Old Mahabalipuram Road, Padur renders health care to a population of 12,800 at their door step with a vision to build a hospital in the same venue. Nurse run clinics and Doctors’ clinics are conducted everyday. Maternal and child health care, morbidity care, school health programme and geriatric care are covered with the help of students posted for their learning experience.

Hostel facilities

Separate hostels for girls and boys are provided with good food and accommodation. Wardens maintain homely care and yet maintain the discipline. Recreational facilities such as Television and facilities for indoor games are provided. Their mess includes both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food that students plan through the food committee.
