The College is functioning in a spacious ground with all infrastructural facilities including Hostel for women, Mess, Auditorium, Classrooms, Nursing and Science Laboratories, Library and games field. The College has at present over 1000 reference books besides journals from India and abroad. The Library has the potential to develop further to suit the needs of the institution. Purpose of B.Sc (N) Programme
To prepare the students to provide primary health care in various settings.
To prepare the students to hold first lefvel position in nursing as staff nurse/ community health nurse in Hospital/ Community health setup.
To develop teaching and leadership potential.
To develop critical thinking and research capabilities to do small research.
PHILOSOPHY OF B.SC (NURSING) PROGRAMME

- The faculty of this college believes that the professional Nursing Degree Course based and built on sound scientific Educational theory and Practice, prepare our students to provide comprehensive care with the compassion to all individuals of various age groups, in all health care agencies and function effectively as a team member.
- We recognize the need for all round development of our students and shoulder the responsibilities in various levels of nursing positions in future and as citizen.
- We also feel the need in developing a scientific and research attitude and an ability to meet the issues and challenges confronting the nursing profession today.
- We also recognize the need for preparation of nursing leadership to enhance nursing image and practice.
Application Form
Application form and Prospectus can be obtained Online or from the Admission Officer, Omayal Achi College of Nursing, Sathyamoorthy Nagar, Avadi, Chennai - 600 062. On payment by cash / DD / Money Order drawn in favour of Omayal Achi College of Nursing.
Eligibility
- Only female, single candidatesare eligible.
- Minimum Age : should have completed 17 years as on 31st December of the year.
- Candidates should have passed 10+2 of schooling. They should have passed either the higher secondary examination conducted by the Government of Tamilnadu or an equivalent examination accepted by the Governing Council of the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. In the qualifying examination they must have taken the following subjects - Chemistry, Physics, Biology and English and obtained a minimum of 55% in each.
- Candidates should have obtained a minimum of 55% marks in Higher Secondary Examination / qualifying examination in Science subjects and English.
- Candidate should have appeared for the Tamilnadu Professional course entrance examination and obtained the required cut off marks to enter into B.Sc. (Nursing) Programme.
- The Selection Committee constituted by Government of Tamil Nadu shall finalize the selection and allot the candidates as per cut off marks.
Submission of Application
- The sanctioned annual intake of the College is 50. 40% of these seats will be filled up by the Management.
- Any unfilled vacancies remaining after the cut off date prescribed by the Selection Committee shall also be filled up by the Management.
- This will be done on the basis of application received from the candidates specifically for being selected against Management quota and unfilled vacancies.
- The intending candidates must submit their application in the prescribed form to the Admission Officer, Omayal Achi College of Nursing, Sathyamoorthy Nagar, Avadi, Chennai 600 062.
- Two self-addressed envelops of size 28cm by 13 cm should be enclosed with the application, affixed with four Rupees postage stamp each.
- Xerox copies of the mark sheets and other documents should be enclosed to the application in the following order
Certificates and Documents:
- Secondary School Leaving Certificate, Higher Secondary examination certificate.
- Mark sheet of +2 or Pre degree or equivalent.
- 2 copies of duly attested passport size photographs.
- Conduct certificate from Head of the Institution, wherein the applicant studied for her qualifying examination.
- Migration certificate should be submitted, if they are from any University other than the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
- Medical fitness Certificate from authorized Medical Practitioner.
- Hepatitis B Vaccination Certificate.
- Application with incomplete information and not accompanied by documents required as above will be rejected.
- Candidates called for the interview should bring with them all the above certificates and mark sheets in original.
- Candidates who have appeared for examination other than the Tamilnadu State Board Examination have to produce an Eligibility Certificate from Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
- When a candidate desires to get admission into the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, She is expected to submit migration certificate along with eligibility certificate if she hails from other university.
Selection of Candidates
- A list of eligible candidates in order of merit will be prepared by the college Selection Committee on the basis of a written test and on interview of the candidates.
- The unfilled vacancies remaining after the cut off date will be filled up with candidates in the list so prepared in order of merit.
- Admission granted is provisional subject to:
- Supreme Court / Tamilnadu Government Norms.
- The payment of College & Hostel fees.
- Submission of Eligibility Certificate.
Instructional Facilities
- With qualified nursing, medical and non-medical faculty, the College of Nursing will offer high quality programme of study. Method of instruction includes formal lectures, group discussions, laboratory sessions, field work and planned clinical experience, under faculty guidance. Provision is also made for individual guidance and various clinical experiences. A well-organized counseling department also helps the students for their development.
- The minimum requirement is 100% of the attendance of the clinical experience including community health nursing experience and 100% attendance of the lectures in each subject in each semester.
- Any day of absence in the clinical area without prior permission will be counted as two days of absence and will have to be made up subsequently. The mark list will be with held until all the absenteeism has been made up.
- Students will be permitted to enter the III year course that is V semester, only after they have passed all the subjects of the I and II year, that is I to IV Semesters. They will not be permitted to undergo the VIII Semester course unless they have passed all the subjects in the V, VI and VII semesters.
- On successful completion of the Programme and convocation, they should register with the Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council.
- Academic Progress : A high academic Performance is expected from the students of our quality oriented Institution. To this effect of our quality oriented Institution. To this effects regular assessment and progress reports will be maintained and the parents / guardians will be intimated as and when found necessary. Students who do not show any progress or who fail repeatedly in the internal examinations may not be allowed to appear for semester examination or even continue the course.
- Semester examinations & Results : As per the regulations of the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
College Fees
- Each candidate selected for admission should pay the fees during registration. Then, at the beginning of each semester / year the student should comply with all the admission requirements and pay all the fees for the semester / year, failing which she shall not be allowed to attend classes. If the student for any personal reason voluntarily wishes to discontinue, then they must pay the tuition fees alone for the remaining semesters.
Uniform
- Students are required to wear the uniform prescribed by the College during clinical experience.
- Students should have their hair put up and should wear only prescribed footwears.
- Students are not allowed to wear any jewellery except small earrings during the clinical experience.
Vacations
- Vacations are given according to the programme of study, 2 weeks in December and 4 weeks in may respectively. Students are not permitted to have any other kind of leave or absenteeism.
- Disciplinary action will be taken if students remain absent on the 1st and closing day of the term.
- A medical certificate from a registered medical practitioner must be produced within 3 days in the event of illness.
Students Activities
- Students are expected to participate in all the activities organized by the College. Students are encouraged to become members of the Student Nurses Association. The Student Nurses Association will provide a means of personal and professional development for the nursing student.
- To use leisure time creatively and effectively, they are provided with facilities for indoor and outdoor games.
- Picnics are arranged for the students every year. Educational trips will be charged during the course and students will have to bear the full expense of the trip. Free conveyance may be available for short distance.
Conduct and Discipline
- Students are responsible to the Principal for the behaviour both in and outside the College.
- Students should maintain silence in the class, library and in the corridors when lectures are in session.
- Students should make every effort to take care of the College, hostel and hospital property.
- Any willful damage done to the property of the College, Hostel and Hospital will be dealt with as a breach of discipline.
- Students are required to abide by the rules and regulations laid by the hospital, and college authorities. Violation of rules will entail disciplinary action.
- Students are required to maintain ethical and professional standards and behaviours.
- Students will not involve themselves in any religious activity publicly with the campus during their tenure in the college
- Students who are found to have major health problems viz., cardiac problems, Epilepsy, tuberculosis, infectious skin diseases, psychiatric problems or any other major illness will have to discontinue their course and the fees paid will not be refunded.
- Voluntary withdrawal: Students who voluntarily withdraw from the college shall be required to pay full fees for the entire course. The fees already paid will not be refunded.
Health Programme
- Each student will undergo an annual medical checkup. Students will be immunized against infectious diseases as and when necessary. If illness occurs during their course they will be cared for in the hospital. If hospitalization is required, Sir. Ivan Stedeford Hospital is utilized.
Hostel
- All students in the Ist Year are required to live in the hostel located in the campus.
- Rooms are provided with furniture. Each student must bring a bedding / mattress, a pillow, 4 white sheets, 4 pillow covers, two bed spreads, a blanket, an umbrella and a watch with a second hand.
- They should not being any valuable jewellery. The college will not take any responsibility for loss or theft.
- Food will be provided in the Nurses Hostel. The charges for each month will be approximately Rs. 900/- Boarding charges must be paid before the 10th of every month.
- Parents and students are required to read and sign the rules of the hostel formed by the Management. The same will be given to the student at the time of selection.
- Mobile Phones are Strictly not permitted.

The fees can be paid in AUGUST:
- Mess Fees per month Rs.850 will be Rs.900/- from August 2007.
- University affiliation fees of Rs.1,500/- should be paid every year
One time fees to be paid at the time of joining:

Caution Deposit : Rs.5,000/-
University Registration (one time fees) and Examination fees actuals will be collected every semester. Clinical Experience fees of Rs.1,000/- to be paid by the student for Mental Health Nursing alone will be collected in the V-semester as this is a fee collected by the Institute of Mental Health.
The fees of Rs.10,000/- per annum to the Director of Medical Education for permission for the above, Rs.7,500/- per annum to Indian Nursing Council as Inspection charges as Rs.7000/- per annum to The Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council as Recognition fees are made by the Management.

- We, the faculty of Omayal Achi College of Nursing believe that nursing is a dynamic profession with advanced clinical nursing specialization. In this electronic and technological age, we expect nurse to exercise critical and clinical thinking skills. Application of conceptual models, nursing theories and nursing process in the areas of clinical to uplift Nursing standard.
- We accept that every nurse is essentially a teacher and this programme facilitates rich, comprehensive educational experiences to prepare a role model in the areas of nursing education. We also believe that preparation of post-Graduate nurses as value driven professionals.
- We consider professional nursing had on obligation to enrich body of knowledge towards its profession through nursing research and this programme is fortified with an excellent exposure to conduct nursing research under guidance. Further this programme encourages to demonstrate leadership in any health care setting with accountability and commitment.

Payment of Rs. 500/- (Rupees Hundred and fifty only) by DD / cash / Money Order drawn in favour of Omayal Achi College of Nursing.
The Candidates should have
- Passed the qualification of B.Sc., Nursing Degree of Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University or any other University accepted as equivalent there to.
- Should have registered with the State Nurses and Midwives Council.
- Should have two years of experience in a teaching hospital or in a College (or) in a school of Nursing (or) in a Community Health Programme. Out of the two years experience, atleast a minimum of six months should have been in the field of specialty chosen.
- In case of male candidates they should have passed any other course recommended by the Indian Nursing Council in place of Midwifery.
- Every candidate before admission to this programme shall submit to the Principal of the Institution a Certificate of Medical fitness from an authorised Medical Officer that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the academic programme and does not suffer from any disability or contagious diseases.
- Should submit Migration certificate, if they are from any University other than the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University.
- Should have minimum of 2 years experience after registration with their respective State Council.
Eligibility Certificate
Candidates from other states shall obtain an eligibility certificate from the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form.
Medium of Instruction
English shall be the medium of Instruction for all the subjects of study and for examinations of the M.Sc., Nursing Programme.
Registration
A candidate admitted to the Programme shall register with the Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form for registration duly filled in and forwarded to the above University through the head of the Institution within the stipulated date.
Commencemet of the Programme
The Programme will commence during the month of July
- Filled in Application should reach the Office on or before 30th January 2002.
- Candidates will be selected on the basis of merit and experience by the College Selection Committee and their decision will be final.
- Candidates will be called for a Selection / Interview before admission.
Working Days in the Academic year and vacation
Each academic year shall consist of not less than 200 working days. Vacation will be as per the University rules
Attendance
The candidate should have 80% of attendance in theory and practicals separately and should have completed all the requirements prescribed for each course of study including clinical practice before admission to examinations.
- No candidate shall be permitted to any one of the parts of M.Sc., (Nursing) Programme unless he / she has attended the course in the subject for the prescribed period in an affiliated Institution recognised by Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R.Medical University & produces the necessary certificate of study, attendance and progress from the Head of the Institution.
- A candidate lacking in the prescribed attendance and progress in any one subject in theory and practical in the first appearance shall not be admitted for admission to the entire examinations.
Condonation of lack of attendace
There shall be no condonation of lack of attendance to post graduate programme.
Curriculum
The curriculum and syllabus for the programme shall be as prescribed by the Standing Academic Board from time to time.
Scheme of Examinations
Theory and Practical examinations shall be conducted as part I and part II at the end of the first year and second year respectively in subject as per the syllabus. If the candidate fails, he / she will be allowed to appear for subsequent examinations along with the failed subject.
Submission of dissertation
The candidate shall submit a dissertation in the field of specialty, four months before the final examination for valuing and certification. The candidate is required to write a dissertation in his / her specialty.
Evaluation of dissertation
The dissertation shall be valued by
- Professor of Nursing Research common to all the branches of specialty.
- Professor in clinical specialty.
- An external examiner with Nursing Research Experience who will be common to all.
The number of pages of dissertation should not exceed 60 pages. The viva should be arranged 2 weeks prior to the University Examinations.
Resubmission of Thesis
Resubmission of thesis with corrections can be done within 6 months. Resubmission of thesis with total re-doing can be done within 2 years.
Internal Assessment and Modalities for award
- There shall be an internal assessment in all subjects and marks for each subject will be according to the weightage given to each subject.
- College examinations along with marks of all evaluation will form the find grade for the internal assessment for the subjects. These marks should be submitted to the University two weeks before the commencement of the University examinations.
- Any candidate who fails in the internal assessment shall be given an opportunity to improve the internal assessment.
Award of Class
The candidate who obtains
- 75% in aggregate is considered to have passed in first class with distinction
- 60% in aggregate is considered to have passed in first class.
- 50% in aggregate is considered to have passed.
- Below 50% is considered to have failed.
Eligibility for Award of the Degree
The candidate will be awarded the degree of Master of science in Nursing when she / he has put in the prescribed courses of study for two years and successfully completed all the course requirement including the submission of dissertation.

Submission of Application
The application in the form prescribed should be completed and correctly filled in by the applicant in his / her own hand writing and sent by Registered post with acknowledgment due to the Admission Officer, Omayal Achi College of Nursing, King Cross Road, Sathyamoorthy Nagar, Avadi, Chennai - 600 062.
Xerox copies of certificates, mark sheets and documents should be attached to the application as mentioned in the application form.
Selection
After scrutiny of applications, eligible candidates will be called for entrance test / interview.
Candidates will be selected in order of merit on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test and selection interview held thereafter. The expenses for appearing for the written test / selection interview will be borne by the applicant only. The result will be displayed in the College notice board.
Admission secured on the basis of false information supplied will be cancelled and their fees forfeited. Admission notification will intimate the date of commencement of classes.
Students remaining absent for three consecutive days without prior intimation / permission shall forfeit their admission as well as fees. Eligibility certificate wherever applicable must be given.
