Mother Mary Garson
Mother Mary Garson who turned one care home in Brighton, in England into a Benedictine congregation in 1959 and now with 27 homes for the elderly and needy in three continents, with a school of Nursing in Tiruvannmalai , S. India and another five houses in different parts of India.
Mother Mary Garson worked as a psychologist before she started the congregation in her early thirties. In the 1950s she used to visit the homes and see the sick patients and bought a local house to care for the infirm. The house became a congregation, which adopted the rule of St Benedict in 1978, with Mother Mary Garson as its first Prioress-General.  She also oversaw the establishment of foundations in south India in the 1970s and Africa in the 1990s
