The Indian Nursing Council has taken giant strides and revised the syllabus for all nursing programmes. As well, it is observed that there is dearth of Indian textbooks for student’s reference based on new syllabus. The foreign textbooks do not adequately represent Indian cultural and demographic scenarios. Hence, it was felt a dire need for Nurse Educators and the council to write the nursing textbooks for students hailing from Indian background.
Therefore the council has taken the initiative to provide a forum for the faculty to author the textbooks. This Council intends to promote 47 nursing titles with the help of qualified and rich experienced faculties from Tamilnadu.
In this connection, on 22nd September 2009 an “Authors Meet” was conducted with the faculty members who had given their consent to author the text books. During the “Authors Meet”, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Dr. G. Josephine, Registrar of Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council and Ms. Renu Kaul, Managing Director of M/s. Vitmed Publishing to promote nursing textbooks and in turn the authors signed an MOU with the council on the text book units and chapters to be written by concerned individual faculty authors.
So far 150 Nursing Faculties have signed the MOU with the Council to Author Nursing Textbooks and strengthened the initiative. The following deliberations were also done to guide the authors. Subsequently, handouts of all the presentations were given.
